Personal Online Coaching

As a competitive runner, you deserve the personal attention and expert training advice that even the world's best athletes receive. Our goal is to provide individualized, expert coaching that helps you achieve your goals and learn more about yourself and the training process at the same time. McMillan Running is recognized as a leader in online coaching and provides unprecedented access to your personal coach. Unlike other restrictive online coaching programs, there are no limits on the number of emails and no limits on the number of phone calls between you and your coach. Your new coach is available 24/7 and eager to help you improve.

What You Get

With our online coaching program, you receive a complete package filled with great information and valuable training and racing tools. Once you sign up (below), you receive (via email) the Athlete Questionnaire which gathers detailed information on you, your training/racing history as well as your goals.

After returning the questionnaire, we perform a full and thorough evaluation of your training and racing history as well as your future goals. Next, we build your training plan. Using the training philosophy outlined on this site, your program gradually and progressively builds you into a complete runner - one ready for the challenges of all race distances as well as specifically prepared for your goal race(s).

Next we utilize the McMillan Running Calculator to calculate your Optimal Training Paces for each and every workout. Armed with the Calculator and your Questionnaire, the training plan is built specifically for you - taking into account your preferences with regard to long run and key workouts days, races, vacations, etc. On one Excel spreadsheet, you'll find the details for each and every day of the week throughout your program. No more guesswork on what to run. Just check today's date on the schedule. This schedule incorporates every single workout and you use the Calculator worksheet to know exactly what pace to run. We also list the purpose for each workout as well as any special instructions or goals for workouts and races. The schedule is built for the upcoming three months and with your weekly feedback, is updated to reflect how your training is going. This worksheet is also adjusted for when "life happens" and you need to change things around.

Finally, we include several other worksheets to help you in your training and racing - a shoe log, a race report log, a pace chart, treadmill conversions as well as your individual Calculator worksheet.

Your Part

Throughout the program, the only thing that we expect (and rely upon) from you is consistent feedback via e-mail or phone. Let us know the results of each key workout, race, any problems with the training, upcoming vacations, family commitments, etc. This allows us to make any necessary adjustments to the training schedule. After all, the schedule you receive is not set in stone but is a work in progress. It is modified continually based on your feedback and with the results of each workout and race.

Unlike other coaching programs, we don't limit the number of calls or e-mails from athletes. We wholeheartedly welcome and encourage your feedback as often as necessary, especially in the early part of the training schedule. Ask all your questions. Let us know how things are going - both physically and mentally. You are the only one who truly knows your body so we rely on your feedback to keep your program on the fast track to success.

Cost

The cost for the personal coaching program is $125 per month. This rate includes the complete package described above as well as unlimited contact via phone and email. There are no limits on personal contact nor are there varying levels of service/benefits (i.e., gold, silver, bronze programs). All athletes receive the same level of service.

Your coaching program is billed quarterly ($375) and is paid via credit card through PayPal (below) or by check to the address below. Your coaching subscription is quarterly because proper coaching can only occur with short-term and long-term planning in mind. Your program is built with the intention of accomplishing your racing goals which will likely be three to twelve months down the road. As stated above, this is not a cookie-cutter plan. This is an individualized plan to help you reach your full potential.
